One of the foremost reasons for cracked feet is dryness. Hence, make it a point to generously moisturise your feet every night before going to bed. Here are some simple home remedies that will help treat cracked heels...

-Wash your feet and apply hydrogenated vegetable oil on the dry and cracked areas. Wear socks and leave the oil on overnight.

-Take a ripe banana and crush it till it becomes pulp. Apply this on your feet and keep it for about 20 minutes and wash it off.

-Mix lemon juice in warm water and soak your feet in it for 20 minutes. After this, take a loofah and gently exfoliate your feet to remove dead skin.

-Make a mixture of one teaspoon petroleum jelly and lemon juice. Rub this on your heels till it is completely absorbed. Wear thick socks and leave it on overnight.

-Another effective remedy is applying a mixture of glycerin and rosewater, which is known to cure cracked heels.

Cracked heels can also be caused due to a deficiency of vitamins, minerals, Zinc and Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Hence, make sure that your diet is rich in vitamins, minerals and Zinc. Vitamin E-rich foods include vegetable oils, green vegetables, cereals, wheat germ, whole-grain products and nuts while Calcium-rich foods include milk, cheese, yogurt, cereals and broccoli. Iron sources include meat, chicken, fish, cereals, eggs, vegetables and beans. Zinc-rich foods include oysters, chicken, crab, kidney beans, yogurt and brown rice. Lastly, Omega-3 Fatty Acids are found in cold-water fish, and flaxseed oil or flax seeds.

Simple tips that go a long way:
Always keep your feet clean.
Moisturise your feet daily and exfoliate weekly.
Avoid walking barefoot.
Soak your feet in warm water once a week since this increases blood circulation.
